Our winning design proposal for Møllergata 24 is a modern office building in central Oslo named "The Diagonal". The lower section of the building was designed as an extension of the government park creating a key connection for the new east-west axis in the city centre. The park is drawn in and through the building as a spacious and descending park across three levels as a public space. The upper part of the building is raised above the street as an efficient and modern office building, which gives all workplaces a "prime location" with direct daylight and views to the surrounding city.

The new government park will be built over Hammersborggata and become an attractive east-west axis for pedestrians. This connection is important for Oslo’s urban context and is continued in our concept of Møllergata 24.

The main ambition of our proposal is to minimize the building’s carbon footprint with BREEAM and/or FutureBuilt project. Designing a sustainable building with a comfortable indoor climate and a low energy usage are the key drivers of our sustainability concept.

The new 13-story office building has an optimised floorplate with an area of 780 m² with a high level of flexibility. Multiple floors can be used by the same tenant; similarly, one floor can be used by one or more tenants. It was a high priority to create a futureproof and sustainable project with a long life cycle to compensate for the demolition of the existing building.

Our proposed Park Diagonal will help to create a generous and lively urban space which spreads around the building into the neighbouring streets. The proposed lower three levels of the building have active facing frontages housing cafes, bars and restaurants that are open to the public and transform what currently is an inward facing and unsightly narrow passage into a welcoming and generous landscaped transition from the new government park to the west to the vibrant Torgata quarter to the east.
