Arkthing merges with Nordic Office of Architecture
After several highly successful collaborations on various projects in recent years, Arkthing in Reykjavik and Nordic Office of Architecture in Oslo will merge to further strengthen their market position both in the Nordic region and internationally. Nordic has acquired 100% of the shares in Arkthing
“To meet new challenges in a market with many large international players, we will merge to stand even stronger in the competition for the most exciting projects,” says Eskild Andersen, Managing Director of Nordic. “After the merger with Arkthing, we will have over 220 employees across four countries working together to create world-class architecture. Together, we will be able to meet the challenges of an increasingly demanding market in the best possible way,” Andersen continues.
Both leading architectural firms recognize the importance of closely following technological advancements in architecture, and together they aim to be at the forefront of development.
The collaboration on projects such as Keflavik Airport brought the firms together, and it has become increasingly clear that even closer cooperation will be beneficial for future projects. Both Nordic and Arkthing have built a lasting culture of high quality and outstanding architecture over the past 40 years. The architectural offices share core values such as openness and commitment to clients and society, and both have extensive experience and knowledge from a broad range of projects.
Nordic and Arkthing see great potential in their home markets in Norway and Iceland, and the new merger will open up a wealth of new opportunities for both parties.
Sigurdur Hallgrimsson, founder of Arkthing, is very positive about the merger with Nordic. “We see this as a fantastic opportunity to become a strong player in the Nordic market together, with good opportunities to secure the most interesting projects. Considering how fast the development in architecture is progressing, we see that we need to invest even more in staying at the forefront of new technology and specialized expertise. Together with Nordic, we will be able to take an important step into the future.”
The architects behind the merger are all very pleased with the new opportunities that have now opened up for them. “Together, we will strengthen our position as a leading architectural firm in the Nordic region,” concludes Andersen.
