Energy renovation and insulation might not sound very exciting, but they can make a big difference in reducing one’s CO2 emissions, especially in cities like Copenhagen, where there are many older buildings. Therefore, the Technical and Environmental Administration now wants to inspire building owners in the city to energy renovate their facades.

Cold bridges, drafts from attics, and cold walls in the home. This is everyday life in the cold winter months for many Copenhageners living in the city’s older buildings. It is neither comfortable to live in, good for the wallet, nor good for the environment.

“We need to make it as easy as possible for Copenhageners to make their homes as climate-friendly as possible. At the same time, it improves the indoor climate and saves on heating costs. Therefore, I am pleased to present this inspiration catalog, which provides visual suggestions and practical advice on how you can energy renovate your home with the Klimafacade+ concept. At the same time, we are launching a practical calculator where you can see if it is worthwhile in terms of CO2 and economically to insulate the individual building,” says Line Barfod (EL), Technical and Environmental Mayor of Copenhagen Municipality.

The Technical and Environmental Administration in Copenhagen Municipality has therefore taken the initiative to address the challenges. A new inspiration catalog for Klimafacade+, developed by Nordic Office of Architecture, provides visual ideas and practical advice for facade renovation and makes it easier for Copenhageners to renovate more environmentally friendly.

“With the new inspiration catalog for Klimafacade+, Copenhageners have a good guide at hand for the facade renovation process. There is a huge potential in upgrading the city’s existing buildings so that they become more environmentally friendly and better to live in at the same time. Therefore, we are proud to have developed this inspiration catalog, which helps bring Copenhagen closer to the goal of becoming climate positive by 2035,” says Mads Engel, Director of Nordic Office of Architecture.

Viegand Maagøe A/S has developed a CO2 calculator for Copenhagen Municipality. The calculator shows whether it is worthwhile to renovate the individual building both economically and in terms of CO2.
