One year until the new Stavanger University Hospital opens
In just one year, the new Stavanger University Hospital (SUS) will open its doors, bringing more than just a healthcare facility to Stavanger and Rogaland. This state-of-the-art hospital will enhance patient experiences and improve the daily work environment for staff, while also fostering research, education, and community development in the region.
The area will become more interconnected, with the hospital serving as the heart of a new neighborhood that promotes an active and growing local community, in line with Stavanger municipality's vision.
The extensive collaboration between Nordic Office of Architecture and AART has been driven by:
Innovative Architecture: The design prioritizes patient well-being through natural daylight and green surroundings, creating a simple and clear work environment for staff. Phase 1 includes four main buildings with inner courtyards around a central square, allowing daylight to enter from all sides and eliminating traditional hospital corridors.
Accessibility: The hospital's functions are centered around a central square, connected by a ring road on the 2nd and 3rd floors for efficient logistics and easy navigation. The north-south public transport axis ensures sustainable transport and good accessibility.
Flexibility: Treatment areas and patient rooms are standardized as much as possible to ensure flexibility and the ability to easily change functions in the future.
Patient Comfort: All patient rooms are single rooms with private bathrooms, ensuring increased infection control, privacy, and comfort for all patients. With dedicated guest bed solutions in all rooms, patients can have their loved ones close by when they need it most.
Healthcare of the Future: Modern facilities and a high degree of automation for advanced medical treatment and research, including state-of-the-art operating rooms, intensive care units, and laboratories.
The architecture is carefully designed to create a health-promoting environment that puts the patient at the center. This hospital represents a new era for healthcare in Stavanger, and we are proud to be part of this journey. We look forward to continuing our work on this important project and contributing further to improving healthcare services and quality of life for the region's residents.
