Oslo Emergency Harbor co-locates emergency services - feasibility study for Kongshavn North
Nordic is working on an emergency harbor for the Port of Oslo, co-locating maritime emergency services, as well as the operational services of Oslo Harbor and the Urban Environment Agency for ports and islands. This will ensure more efficient operations and numerous synergies, freeing up valuable space for public use on the islands.
The use of both the waterfront and water traffic in Oslo is increasing at rapid pace, and as more and more people are drawn towards Oslo's coast line, the idea of a unified harbor for all emergency services grows stronger.
"Oslo needs to strengthen its maritime preparedness. Co-locating the emergency services will enhance preparedness and make Oslo safer," says Oslo's Chief of Emergency Preparedness, Ann Kristin Brunborg in an interview with Aftenposten.
Today, relevant agencies for the proposed harbor, ranging from the PST to the Emergency Response Unit and the Police Maritime Service, are spread across multiple locations around Oslo. Efforts exploring the possibilities for consolidation has been ongoing for a year, and Kongshavn North, just below the old maritime school at Ekeberg, has been designated as a suitable location.
However, at the moment this is only a feasibility study and the future of the project relies to a great extent on where the new passanger terminal is located, among many things.
