Tips for a Better City – from Gehl and Deurs

There was plenty of inspiration on offer when Jan Gehl and Camilla van Deurs launched their joint book God by – kort fortalt (The Good City – in Short) last week at the Danish Architecture Center.

One of the key takeaways? The easier, the more. In other words – don’t, metaphorically speaking, pack away the trombone. When planning cities, make sure to create opportunities in public spaces and simple walking routes with clear destinations. The easier it is to get there, the more people will actually use them.

The inspiring conversation between Camilla and Jan continues on LinkedIn and Instagram in the coming weeks, as they visit three Nordic projects across Denmark.

Drawing on Jan Gehl’s quality criteria for good city life, they’ll continue the dialogue, highlighting what creates livable cities and enhances well-being – and perhaps also sharing examples of what doesn’t. Along the way, they’ll showcase architecture that may even help solve challenges in our public spaces. For everyone’s inspiration 🤗
