Scope
Rail and metro design
The Majorstuen transport hub will transform one of Oslo’s busiest metro stations and the surrounding area into an attractive space with improved public transportation services and amenties.
To increase future capacity for the new Fornebubanen metro line, Majorstuen station will be expanded from two grade level platforms to four underground platforms. New tunnels towards the city centre and branching tracks towards the west, as well as a new station at Diakonhjemmet hospital, are also included in the project.
New opportunities
By lowering the height of the tracks a buildable area of 100.000 square metres can be realised above the station, enabling a new green, urban development, with better connections across the district and additional recreational spaces.
Holistic design
The design of the station halls and entrances is defined by a holistic approach, with long-lasting, high-quality materials, intuitive wayfinding, and safe and bright spaces that are well-integrated with the surrounding cityscape. Buildability, safety and operability were key factors in the design and planning process.
