The new Arctic Capital of the World
Nuuk is expected to grow considerably in the near future as the population moves from the small settlements around the coast - into the city. Siorarsiorfik, Nuuk City Development, is a part of the local strategic planning effort to make Nuuk the arctic capital of the world. Nordic won the international design competition in 2017.
The project includes the master planning of both Qinngorput and Siorarsiorfik and focuses on sustainability and a design that will emphasize the qualities of the local landscape and the vast beauty of the arctic.
Located by the water, all the residential housings in the new district will have ocean views and the spaces between the houses contribute to a strong sense of community. Besides housing, the new district comprises a school, a kindergarten and a variety of commercial buildings.
