The vision behind this project was to forge a fresh educational environment, one that unites students and maximizes the flexibility and use of existing gymnasium spaces. We reimagined the layout to enhance the overall educational experience for all students.

Space and flexibility

The new hall provides more space and increased flexibility for children and adults. By connecting two existing halls with the new one, it also creates a functional and visual connection between old and new.

Relation and materiality

The new hall was inspired by the proportions and materiality of the existing buildings. This was achieved by reinterpreting the pitched roof in a new way and using the brick seen in the existing buildings' exteriors as part of the interior.

To create a dynamic and vibrant facade, the new building is constructed with wood as the primary material. The wood has been heat-treated, resulting in a beautiful patination with shades of grey. This process also requires minimal maintenance, making it a sustainable and aesthetic choice.

The large windows that open to the schoolyard are also designed to harmonise with the existing buildings, creating a visual coherence throughout the complex.

The primary use of wood continues into the interior, creating a welcoming and warm atmosphere inside the hall. Furthermore, Troldtekt has been chosen as a partial wall covering, which helps to improve the sound conditions in the hall and creates a pleasant acoustic experience for users.

Overall, the design has been carefully executed to create a cohesive and functional space that respects and complements the character of the existing buildings.
