Thriving sustainable societies
Nordic’s mission is to contribute to a more sustainable society through exceptional architecture that transforms, inspires, and enhances the environments in which we live.
At Nordic Office of Architecture, sustainability initiatives are deeply embedded in our culture and design processes. With a holistic approach, we assess the environmental, social, and economic aspects of each project. Our commitment is clear from the initial design phases, where we collaborate with clients and interdisciplinary teams to define sustainability goals for every project.
As an international practice with a diverse network of experts, we address sustainability holistically and dynamically, with the aim to deliver buildings with a long lifespan, whether it is a new build, renovation, or adaptive reuse project. We believe that the most important thing we can do is to create high-quality, area-efficient, and timeless buildings that meet today's needs and are adaptable for future generations.
Technology, research and innovation
Architects play a vital role in reducing emissions caused by the building industry, from the early conceptual phase through post-occupancy. Our employees have leading expertise, extraordinary commitment, and qualifications to plan, design, build and construct in ways that minimise environmental impacts.
We believe that we cannot create a sustainable future on our own. Therefore, we collaborate with other experts, consultants, clients, and researchers and enter strategic partnerships to find the best solutions for tomorrow.
For example, we are collaborating with Tvinn Solutions and other Norwegian architecture practices to develop new digital solutions for circularity and material reuse in building projects.
Nordic’s highly competent technology group plays an active role in our sustainability strategy, performing advanced simulation studies and Life cycle Assessment (LCA) analyses, helping our design teams to develop innovative and planet conscious projects. We are involved in several research and development projects focusing on environmentally friendly building methods and materials.
For example, Nordic is part of the DARE2C (Durable Aluminium Reinforced Environmentally Friendly Concrete Construction) consortium, developing a low-carbon concrete with reinforcement made of recycled aluminium.
We work with the latest LCA tools to generate real-time climate impact feedback from our projects. LCA analyses are improved and automated when combining information from our BIM models with an AI-integrated platform that contains environmental information from comprehensive databases.
Certifications
We have several employees with certifications within BREEAM NOR (Norway), BREEAM AP Assessor and Site Sustainability Manager (Iceland), DGNB (Denmark) and Nordic Swan Ecolabel (Denmark).
Nordic Norway is now ISO 14001 certified.
