Designing the future

Nordic together with Asplan Viak, were commissioned by Bodø municipality to create an urban development plan for the town itself and the local airport. Two different scenarios for the period 2025-2065 were explored, with both scenarios including a complete urban development with 17 000 new homes and commercial areas.

Scenario 0 (retaining current airport): An 80 metre parallel displacement of the runway splits the town in two, with new developments isolated from the town centre by the airport.

Scenario 1 (relocated airport): A 900 metre displacement of the entire airport allows for continuous development of the city next to the airport. This scenario facilitates the development of a "smart city", with short distances between residential and work places within the city core. This option can also include a harbour in close vicinity to the airport.
