Complementing and contrasting
Nýlendugata 34 in Reykjavík's western harbour district consists of seven residential units. We created a modern design statement that complements the existing surroundings of traditional timber houses. To match the scale of the surrounding buildings the site is broken up into three connected houses.
Metallic bronze statement
Most of the houses in the area are clad in corrugated iron. To mimic this in a new and innovative way, we chose anodized corrugated aluminium sheets in a metallic bronze color for the new addition in the neighbourhood.
Warm and natural
Inside, the exposed timber create spaces with a warm and welcoming character. The building is constructed with cross-laminated timber elements, meaning a much lower carbon footprint than concrete construction.
