Considerate conservation
The new building for acute psychiatry at Østmarka in Trondheim proved to be a twofold challenge. Given its setting in a conservation area, we concentrated our efforts on designing a concept that would allow the historical and natural characteristics of the property to strengthen the new structure.
Connection to nature
The building houses four wards with a total of 42 beds, and all patient rooms are outward facing, overlooking the natural surroundings. Lounges, interview rooms and other common areas are inward facing, allowing the patients a degree of autonomy and freedom to use the outdoor areas at their own discretion.
