Modular hospital

The concept phase for the “Tønsberg project” at Vestfold Hospital encompassed 28.000 m² new build for somatic use and 12.500 m² for psychiatry and common areas. A particular focus in the design process was the potential to use prefabricated building elements and room the construction stage to optimise quality and efficiency.

Flexible and convertible

The somatic building houses wards, a paediatric centre with neonatal intensive care, day care units with outpatients and also an emergency room served by a helipad. A great emphasis has been placed on creating flexible layouts with standardised rooms to ensure wards can easily be converted into outpatient clinics or vice versa

Manageable environments

In the new psychiatry building, small ward units are placed around the staff workstations for improved flexibility and proximity of observations. The wards have good views to green areas and access to both the enclosed courtyard gardens and an open park
