Bringing generations together

The main concept of Nordic’s competition proposal for the Persaunet Health and Welfare Centre was to remove barriers and open it up to provide outlook, light, movement and companionship.

The submission included a nursing home and independent residential units, and our goal was to create a place where residents in both the nursing home and the living units – young and old – would encounter each other.

Safe haven

An important part of the concept was to design intuitive and safe areas where the community could interact, so we included a walkway through the Health and Welfare Centre, providing the nursing home with easier access to open-air areas.

Green thinking

Proximity to nature is beneficial for young and old alike, so we fitted the roofs with gardens and created green courtyards that could both be experienced and admired from the inside. The buildings are clad in timber and designed to blend into to the nearby terrain.
